Body & Soul will screen tomorrow's Ireland match after thousands of fans signed a petition

The festival had stated earlier this week that they would not be showing the match.

THIS WEEKEND, THOUSANDS of people will flock to Ballinlough Castle, Co. Westmeath for Body & Soul.

The festival promises to be as magical as ever with the likes of The Gloaming, Santigold and St. Germain set to perform over the course of three days.

Unfortunately, the festival clashes with tomorrow’s Euro 2016 fixture between Ireland and Belgium. And Body & Soul made clear earlier this week that they had no plans to screen it.

In a reply to a concerned fan, they wrote, “We’re not broadcasting the UEFA Euro match at the festival. You could stream the match via the RTÉ iPlayer App on your phone. Or, go old school, and bring a radio and have listening parties with new and old friends.”

DISASTER.

On Wednesday, attendees decided to petition the festival to screen the match.

“Very few times does our little nation get to come together and rejoice in the achievements of Irish soccer at major finals,” the petition states. “This is one of those moments and it needs to be grasped with both hands!!!”

Lets petition Body and Soul to bring a small piece of Ireland’s odyssey in France to a field Westmeath! So that together we can recreate some of the joyous scenes that Irish fans are creating in France and do our nation proud by cheering on Martin, Keano and the boys down at Ballinlough Castle.

“Wouldn’t you rather watch the game on a proper screen than on a phone that isn’t going to work anyway?”

They have a point.

The petition picked up over 2,757 signatures, far exceeding its goal of 2,000.

Meanwhile, fans took to Facebook page to beg and plead with festival organisers to screen the match.

Putting ‘em under pressure and all that.

Last night, Body & Soul stated on Facebook that they were looking into the possibility of screening the match on site and assured fans that they were “working our damndest to make it happen!”

And this afternoon, RTÉ and Body & Soul confirmed that the match WILL be screened on site in the Midnight Circus Arena tomorrow afternoon.

Republic of Ireland fans attending this weekend’s Body&Soul Festival in the grounds of Ballinlough Castle in Co. Westmeath can watch RTÉ2’s live coverage of Ireland’s crunch Group E clash with Belgium. The game will be shown live in the Midnight Circus Arena with coverage beginning at 1.00pm (Kick-off 2.00pm). The Midnight Circus Arena has a capacity of 3,000 and it will be a case of first come first served for those wishing to cheer on the Boys in Green.
